Blog 28 : A Joseph Reflection
This week has felt hopeful and generous with love, grace, and possibility.
I feel deeply in love with the journey I’m on. I’m excited about it, empowered to move with its flow, and accepting of its curves and unexpected turns. There’s a certain beauty in surrendering to the process, trusting that even the detours are part of the design.
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the story of Joseph in the Bible, a narrative so layered with pain, perseverance, and divine purpose that it always moves me. Joseph was his father Jacob’s beloved son, gifted with dreams that foretold his destiny. But his own brothers, driven by jealousy, sold him into slavery. Imagine the betrayal being torn away from family and everything familiar, all because of the very gift that God had placed inside him.
From there, Joseph’s life seemed to move from one trial to another. In Egypt, he served faithfully in Potiphar’s house, only to be falsely accused and imprisoned. For over a decade, Joseph’s life was defined by waiting, yet even in the shadows, he did not lose his ability to dream, nor did he stop interpreting the dreams of others. He remained faithful to the gift God had placed in him.
Then, in what seemed like a single moment, everything shifted. Pharaoh, the ruler of Egypt, had troubling dreams that no one could interpret. Word reached him about Joseph, and Joseph was brought before Pharaoh. By God’s wisdom, he interpreted the dreams: seven years of abundance would be followed by seven years of famine. Because of Joseph’s insight, Egypt was able to prepare and store grain during the years of plenty.
When famine struck, people from all over came to Egypt for food including Joseph’s own brothers, the very ones who had betrayed him. By then, Joseph had been elevated to second in command in Egypt, managing the kingdom’s resources. He could have turned them away, but instead, he recognized the larger picture: “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good.”
The story is powerful because it reminds us that the road to purpose is rarely straight. There are seasons where we may feel forgotten, where it seems like our dreams are on hold, or that the hardships we face are too heavy to bear. Yet Joseph’s journey is proof that God is always at work, even in the background, weaving together every setback into a greater plan.
So, if your journey right now feels uncertain or heavy, I hope it is lit by the revelation of God’s eternal love and guidance. Hold onto your dreams. Keep your heart open to His direction. And when the curves of life feel overwhelming, remember: your story is still unfolding — and nothing is wasted in God’s hands.
Don’t give up on yourself.
